Recently, two of our service engineers completed a major scheduled maintenance project in Barcelona on a yacht powered by twin John Deere marine generator sets. The scope went well beyond routine servicing, including the replacement of key components and extensive system testing.
As part of the final commissioning process, all alarms and shutdown functions were tested before departure. During these checks, an unexpected issue surfaced: a faulty starter relay prevented one of the engines from starting.
Because the issue was identified during testing rather than during operation, it was resolved immediately on board before the vessel returned to service.
It’s a reminder that effective maintenance is about more than replacing parts at scheduled intervals. It’s about testing, verifying and challenging systems before they are needed most.
Commissioning of the gensets will follow in a few weeks. This final phase will confirm that the new power systems meet the required specifications and are ready for the yacht’s next chapter.
