We were involved in an extensive refit project for the yacht My Knight, built by Heesen Yachts. The project is initiated and coordinated by TESS Electric, an integrator of electrical systems for mega yachts, ferries, and commercial vessels worldwide. The scope of the refit spans multiple disciplines, with our role focused on the vessel’s power generation.
Within this project, we are responsible for the complete genset scope. We supplied two premium 118 kWe gensets to BAE Systems, Inc. Both units were fully built and prepared in our workshop before shipment, allowing the majority of assembly and testing to take place under controlled conditions rather than on site. To enable installation on board, the units were partially dismantled prior to transport. Following delivery, our engineer travelled to Jacksonville to carry out the reassembly, the on-board installation, and the full commissioning of the units.
Last week, our service engineers were in the United States, where My Knight is currently undergoing the refit. They carried out the removal of the existing units and the installation of the new gensets. Getting the units into place required careful planning: tight entrances on board and precise lifting operations meant the installation had to be executed with a narrow margin for error. Each step, from positioning to final placement, was coordinated closely with the wider refit team on site.
Commissioning of the gensets will follow in a few weeks. This final phase will confirm that the new power systems meet the required specifications and are ready for the yacht’s next chapter.
An assignment of this scale reflects the coordination required between multiple parties working on a single vessel. Many thanks to the TESS Electric team for the trust and the pleasant collaboration.
